<p>According to an independent advisory committee, preparations for this year's fire season in Central Australia were not enough. Fires have burnt an estimated 150,000 square kilometres of land over the last few months. At a meeting of the Bushfires Council NT in Alice Springs it was heard that equipment was inadequate, key positions within the authority were not filled in time, and there were inadequate resources on pastoral properties.</p>
