Management Project - Gunyangara ecological and cultural heritage trail – Wildlife conservation expansion

Marngarr intends to continue building the Gunyangara Ecological and Cultural Heritage trail to build on the tourism potential for this area. It is important to the development of this trial that Marngarr focus’ on using the local Indigenous workforce to build the trail and aid developing multilingual interpretive signage to promote awareness of the native fauna in the area. The trail intends to aid understanding of the cultural value of the fauna and how the wildlife can be better protected from encroaching development.

Management Project - Conservation program for depleted populations of CITES-listed giant clams off Groote Eylandt

This project offers an innovative program conducted by the Anindilyakwa Rangers to restore depleted populations of the CITES-listed fluted giant clam (Tridacna Squomosa) off Groote Eylandt. The project aims to assist the recovery of the clam populations by seeding clams for cultural use. This will reduce the pressure on wild stocks and provide social benefit.

Management Project - Croc holding pens

Last year, the Adjumarrl Rangers received a crocodile trap through this grant funding process. The provision of  crocodile pens  will enable crocodiles to be held during the wet season when the crocodile farm is unable to collect the animals. There will be a provision for training in crocodile husbandry associated with this program.

Management Project - Reduce Visitor Impact at Manangaymi by Installing Composting Toilet.

Dhimurru  will purchase another composting toilet for installation at Manangaymi (Scout Camp).  Dhimurru Aboriginal Corporation has previously successfully installed three Clivus Multrum composting toilets in their Indigenous Protected Area over the past three years. The units have all been highly effective in reducing the significant impact of uncontrolled waste deposition at the more highly visited recreational areas within the IPA.

Management Project - Kakadu Outstations Invasive Species

Funding will enable AMRRIC to deliver a dog population management program. This will involve a concentrated effort by a veterinary team supplemented by AMRRIC volunteers to desex and euthanize dogs and cats in the Kakadu outstations. AMRRIC’s Education Officer will be able to work concurrently to increase public awareness of the benefits to community and country of this program. The objectives of this program are to reduce the immediate invasive species threats of cats and dogs in the outstations of Kakadu National Park.

Management Project - Feral Animal Management Program - Blue Mud Bay Wetlands Laynhapuy IPA

Populations of feral pigs and water buffalo will be reduced and an ongoing monitoring program established to analyse ground disturbance and water quality data.
