Five years of research into cotton-growing in the sugar-rich Burdekin shows that farmers have the potential to reap lucrative returns if they carefully tailor practices to account for the monsoonal season. Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) Senior Research Scientist Dr Paul Grundy said while cotton had the potential to provide another source of income for cane farmers, it had also delivered agronomic and productivity benefits.
