A simpler approach to vegetation management control has surprised but pleased Queensland graziers. Previous rules required graziers to go through a time consuming and expensive process of applying for a permit to thin areas of trees. Now regulation allows them to do a simple tree count to see if they can legally knock some down. (Wednesday, 24/10/2012)

The Queensland Government is moving to relax the state's tree clearing laws. Natural Resources Minister Andrew Cripps wants to allow landholders to lock in vegetation management plans for up to 10 years and manage for encroachment and fodder harvesting with less paperwork. (Tuesday, 11/09/2012)

Queensland Vegetation Management Act 1999

A short summary of the purposes of the Vegetation management Act 1999 and a link to the Queensland government website where this Act can be viewed.

This Act was passed in 1999, and the most recent reprint of the Act was released with commenced amendments as of March 2003. The purposes of the Act as stated in the Act regulate the clearing of vegetation on freehold land to preserve the remnant endangered regional ecosystems and vegetation in areas of high conservation value and area vulnerable to land degradation. The Act also aims to ensure that clearing does not cause land degradation, that biodiversity is maintained or increased, ecological processes are maintained and that ecologically sustainable land uses are allowed for.
