Roth, C.H., Prosser, I.P., Post, D.A., Gross, J.E. and Webb, M.J. (2003) Reducing sediment export from the Burdekin Catchment. Report to Meat & Livestock Australia Limited. CSIRO Land and Water and CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems.
This report was funded by Meat and Livestock Australia, to explore ways to reduce the sediment export from grazing lands that potentially affect freshwater and marine ecology of the waterways receiving the runoff. Grazing methods to improve erosion control are suggested.
This report gives advice useful for the management of various categories of NT floodplains in relation to grazing. It covers Sub-coastal Plains, Marrakai and Finniss systems. Information on seasonal flood patterns, soil type and vegetation is provided for each. Advice is given on how to manage properties through maintaining a sustainable density of stock, planting additional cultivars and limiting access of stock to pasture so that areas can be spelled during the wet season.
