The preferred developer for the second stage of Western Australia's Ord irrigation development has formally sealed the deal with the State Government. The Chinese owned Kimberley Agricultural Investment (KAI), was named the preferred developer of Ord Stage 2 in Western Australia last year, giving it access to over 13,000 hectares. The Hamersley Agricultural Project in the north west of Western Australia is in full swing, on the way to producing 25,000 tonnes of hay a year using water pumped out from beneath the Marandoo iron ore mine. Water at the site's 17 irrigation centre pivots was turned on late last year with 2,000 tonnes already cut from the Rhodes grass crop. The 830 hectare project is run by Rio Tinto.
