ECOS News: Fewer dams up north could stop cane toads

Url:
http://www.ecosmagazine.com/paper/EC12520.htm
It may be possible to stop the spread of can toads into new areas of Australia according to research recently published in the Journal of Applied Ecology. A lead author of the study, James Cook University’s Dr Ben Phillips, said that the research team’s work, involving an international team of scientists, showed that artificial water bodies installed by graziers acted as critical stepping-stones for the toad invasion. ECOS Article: Islands are assets for biodiversity conservation

Url:
http://www.ecosmagazine.com/paper/EC12519.htm
A major exercise to assess the biodiversity and ecological security of our offshore islands has identified their importance in helping minimise the impact of pests – such as cane toads – on Australia’s biodiversity. This article discusses case studies on Groote Eylandt and Marchinbar Island. (Monday, 07/01/2013)
