ABC Rural News: The trouble with feral horses

An aerial cull of thousands of horses is imminent at Tempe Downs Station, about 250 kilometres south west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. The Central Land Council is defending the cull, saying the population of feral horses has exploded after three wet years in a row. (Friday, 10/05/2013)

The night parrot is thought to inhabit much of arid Australia, it's so rare that the night parrot has never been photographed. But ecologist Julian Reid and filmmaker Rob Nugent from the Australian National University are trying. They're currently touring Central Australia speaking to anyone who claims to have a night parrot story for an upcoming documentary. (Monday, 29/04/2013)

Landholders in Central Australia are reporting an influx of feral cats on their properties. The Solczaniuk family, who run the Ross River Resort about 80 kilometres east of Alice Springs, say they've trapped seven cats and sighted more than 30 near their chook pen over the last two weeks. ABC Rural News: Dry weather accelerates summer camel cull

Dry conditions have enabled the Australian Feral Camel Management Project to cull more than 35,000 camels in Central Australia over the last six months. An aerial cull of 7,000 camels has just been completed in the Petermann Ranges in the south-western corner of the Northern Territory, taking the total number of camels removed to 135,000 since 2009. Scientists have dressed up about 20 trees along a river bed on a Northern Territory cattle station in large silver jackets, all in the name of groundwater science.
