Now the Limmen National Park has finally been declared, the Department of Natural Resources is planning to develop Munbililla into a proper caravan park with established facilities. ABC Rural News: National park declared in Gulf of Carpentaria
One of Australia's largest national parks has been formally declared today in the Northern Territory. The Limmen National Park and the adjacent Limmen Bight Marine Park, 300 kilometres south-east of Katherine, cover an area spanning more than one million hectares in the Gulf of Carpenteria region. Management Project - Li-Anthawirriyarra Sea Ranger Unit
Yanyuwa country includes the Sir Edward Pellew Islands and the riverine and coastal areas of the southwest Gulf of Carpentaria. The seas around the eight large islands and more then 50 small islets, reefs and rocks of the Sir Edward Pellew Group provide extensive seagrass beds for dugong, turtle and other marine fauna. The mainland islands are home to large numbers of migrating seabirds and shorebirds.
